First Aid 03:42
Babe you wanna hear what I think about it? Wanna know how I’ve been feeling? What I've been looking for? Thinking of words we talk Thinking of streets we walk Thinking you might understand that I need a little first aid Thinking of words we talk Thinking of streets we walk Thinking you might understand that I need a little first aid Baby in a way you make me stay when i feel like running Think it has become an addiction Do you feel it too? Thinking of words we talk Thinking of streets we walk Thinking you might understand that I need a little first aid Thinking of words we talk Thinking of streets we walk Thinking you might understand that I need a little first aid So I’m ready tell me what you think about that It's the end of the holiday and the sun is gone But I gotta have it, gotta have it like that Did we ever really get into everything? Unfollow me if you feel like trying something easy But you gotta have it gotta have it like that
2.
In Your Way 03:37
Wish I could have turned back the storm that is coming my way Wish I could have turned back time when everything was falling apart If I go on will you follow me? Playing it down Who says we gotta go on? Pretty baby I’m not gonna stand in your way Playing it down Who says we gotta go on? Pretty baby I’m not gonna stand in your way Wish I could have known what to do when you tried to slip away Wish I could explain how I feel but would you listen up anyway? And would you know how to follow me? Playing it down Who says we gotta go on? Pretty baby I’m not gonna stand in your way Playing it down Who says we gotta go on? Pretty baby, I’m not gonna stand in your way

Wherever I go Oh baby darling you’re going to be there Want to get it but I lost control Kiss and hug and regret but I won’t forget Yea yea but I better be yours better be yours Make me look up Yea say that I better be yours better be yours I’m your fool and I won't give up If I only could Oh baby darling I’d make it forever Want to get it but I lost control Kiss and hug and forget could we take it back? Yea yea but I better be yours better be yours Make me look up Yea say that I better be yours better be yours I’m your fool and I won't give up

Skinny Dip 04:51
With another pretty baby down by the sea watching the sun No one around us for miles Why be bored when you can have some fun? Pretty baby and I doing fine And I don’t really know if you’re taking me home I don’t really care what others think about you I just really hope that I’m the only one I can tell that you’re into me Wish I could stop time Is this some kind of ecstasy? Sometimes you need change to feel free With another pretty baby this time i'm stopping to count Maybe it's gonna be us Why don’t we just skinny dip in the dark? Pretty baby and I doing fine And I don’t really know if you’re taking me home I don’t really care what others think about you I just really hope that I’m the only one I can tell that you’re into me Wish I could stop time Is this some kind of ecstasy? Sometimes you need change to feel free So we gotta leave it now? We only like beginnings You’re better than that, im better than than that I gotta leave I can do better So we gotta leave it now? I’ve been waiting I've been waiting but you don’t give me anything I like You’re better than that, im better than than that I gotta leave I can do better

Perfect Daze 04:53
I don’t how to get up when you turn around like that I don’t know how to get up when you blow up You turn me down like this And I never really got it baby Will I ever really get it baby? Wanna waste my time? Wanna join me on my day off? Boy I feel just fine when you know what I am thinking of Am I anything to anyone in any way anyway? Wasting time in a perfect daze We never really got upfront We didn't know what to know Don’t know anything anymore anyway I need space I’m afraid Don’t know how to give up When you’re holding on like that Don't know if you’ll ever let me leave it though We could turn it down like this And I never really got it baby Will I ever really get it baby? Wanna waste my time? Wanna join me on my day off? Boy I feel just fine when you know what I am thinking of Am I anything to anyone in any way anyway? Wasting time in a perfect daze

I wouldn’t face the fears that made our tears run Imaginary friends are gone and I know I will go alone Cause you know we better learn to build a home Incendiary words tried to tell me something was wrong I wouldn’t face the fears that made our time run Imaginary friends are gone and know we will walk alone Cause you know we better learn to make it home Unnecessary words made me see that something was gone I feel like time is slipping back I feel my heart starting to crack And when you’re running out the door I have a feeling that you’ll never be back I feel my heart starting to crack

about

GRO releases rave-pop breakup album written with her ex.

Most people have tried going through a bad break-up, but few people have written an album about it with their ex. This is exactly what the female producer and artist GRO has done with her former boyfriend of many years Mads Kinnerup.

GRO released her album debut in 2021 and was instantly named as one of the most exciting new names on the Danish music scene with her personal and airy pop songs. The debut album ‘Columna’ was written about the grief following in the wake of her mother’s suicide. The new album ‘Better Be Yours’ is also somewhat therapeutic and it includes a bunch of post break-up songs, some of them to the harder electronic side, but also some of the softer songs Gro has ever released.

‘Better Be Yours’ will be released June 2nd.

Behind the alias GRO we find multi-instrumentalist and producer Julie Møller Christiansen. Since her debut ‘Columna’ was released in 2021 to much critical acclaim (GAFFA, Information, Analogue Trash), she has performed all over Denmark for club shows and festivals and this year the release of her new album will also bring her to tour in Germany. Besides her solo career, she also produces for other artists and has made music for theater and films. The latest GRO single has also received airplay on the biggest radio stations in Denmark.

“Not knowing her back story I instantly think of an artist like MØ from the beginning of her career. The lyrics are stripped of cliches and is has a loose, confident and raw vibe which I like very much.”
(Sebastian Saxton, P6 Beat on Columna)

The new album, Better Be Yours, is a strong testimony from the break-up dance floor, where topics such as relationships, insecurity, dreams, fomo, personal development, compromise, confirmation and acceptance are among those invited to the party.

The album is generally about the mood that can stay in the body after a breakup - a lot of opposing feelings and thoughts which, if you dare to dive into them, also contain a huge potential for self development. Better Be Yours has served as Mads' and my musical couples therapy. We have written it while we have detached ourselves from each other and grown together in a new way through music", says Julie.

The album fearlessly captures all the emotions that come with a breakup, the search for new love and the belief that it and the musical collaboration and friendship with a former partner can coexist. The first single from the album, ‘Skinny Dip’, was released in December ’22. A song that came out of the conversations Mads and Julie had when they started dating again and experienced dating app culture's built-in "fomo", as a constant search for the impossible perfect. The second single and the title track, ‘Better Be Yours’, with its raving synthesizers, heavy bass and a hook that hijacks the brain, is an energetic tribute to daring to let go of control and paying tribute to the ups and downs of the relationship. The lates single ‘In Your Way’ is a simple and airy pop song with an infectious synth theme, pulsating drums and GRO’s ethereal and characteristic bright vocal floating on top.

The lyrics has an almost therapeutic meaning to GRO and in many ways it explains why she and Mads broke up:

”When you have been and grown together for a number of years, it can be difficult to realize that you have reached a certain point in your relationship where you no longer paving the way for each other, but end up actually blocking it. We did not want that for each other. But we are determined to remain in each others lives as friends”

Where ‘Columna’ sought to incorporate elements from GRO's upbringing with folk and string instruments with the electronic soundscape, 'Better Be Yours’ has a more refined electronic feel, often with references to the neon aesthetics of the club environment. Julie and Mads share a passion for 90s rave, which they have explored in their previous project We Are The Way For The Cosmos To Know Itself, playing at Roskilde Festival in 2014. On ‘Better Be Yours’ they have resumed the rave references in a new context.

“Better Be Yours by GRO is experimental pop with a distinctive Scandipop feel, fronted by ghostly vocals that glide over a pristine, occasionally skittering arrangement. A striking feature of the track is the way it delicately grafts pop hooks and lush synths over some dark hyperpop moments.”

(Analogue Trash)
