GRO is ready with the 3rd single from her rave pop infused break-up album written with her ex.
Most people have tried going through a bad break-up, but few people have written an album about it with their ex. This is exactly what the female producer and artist GRO has done with her former boyfriend of many years Mads Kinnerup.
Now GRO is ready with the 3rd single from the upcoming album. The new single ‘In Your Way’ is a simple and airy pop song with an infectious synth theme, pulsating drums and GRO’s ethereal and characteristic bright vocal floating on top. Is a much calmer song than previous singles ‘Skinny Dip’ and ‘Better Be Yours’, both which have received International airplay.
The lyrics has an almost therapeutic meaning to GRO and in many ways it explains why she and Mads broke up:
”When you have been and grown together for a number of years, it can be difficult to realize that you have reached a certain point in your relationship where you no longer paving the way for each other, but end up actually blocking it. We did not want that for each other. But we are determined to remain in each others lives as friends”
Behind the alias GRO we find multi-instrumentalist and producer Julie Møller Christiansen. Since her debut ‘Columna’ was released in 2021 to much critical acclaim (GAFFA, Information, Analogue Trash), she has performed all over Denmark for club shows and festivals and this year the release of her new album will also bring her to tour in Germany. Besides her solo career, she also produces for other artists and has made music for theater and films.
“Not knowing her back story I instantly think of an artist like MØ from the beginning of her career. The lyrics are stripped of cliches and is has a loose, confident and raw vibe which I like very much.”
(Sebastian Saxton, P6 Beat on Columna)
“Better Be Yours by GRO is experimental pop with a distinctive Scandipop feel, fronted by ghostly vocals that glide over a pristine, occasionally skittering arrangement. A striking feature of the track is the way it delicately grafts pop hooks and lush synths over some dark hyperpop moments.” (Analogue Trash)
lyrics
Wish I could have turned back the storm that is coming my way
Wish I could have turned back time when everything was falling apart
If I go on will you follow me?
Playing it down
Who says we gotta go on?
Pretty baby I’m not gonna stand in your way
Playing it down
Who says we gotta go on?
Pretty baby I’m not gonna stand in your way
Wish I could have known what to do when you tried to slip away
Wish I could explain how I feel but would you listen up anyway?
And would you know how to follow me?
Playing it down
Who says we gotta go on?
Pretty baby I’m not gonna stand in your way
Playing it down
Who says we gotta go on?
Pretty baby, I’m not gonna stand in your way
