Danish talent GRO releases dating single on Tinder
One of the most exciting new names on the Danish scene is artist and producer GRO. She released her debut album last year and now she is ready with a new single release – Skinny Dip, a song about dating, created in collaboration with her ex-boyfriend, musician and producer Mads Kinnerup.
Skinny Dip will be released on Tinder on November 30th and on all streaming services on December 2nd.
A great talent that is worth keeping an eye on.
(GAFFA about GRO)
Two days before the official release Skinny Dip is to be found on a Tinder profile, where you can exclusively listen to the song if you 'swipe' the right way. The song is about the reflections GRO and Mads had on dating and dating apps after they broke up.
"The song was written based on conversations between Mads and I about dating and the way online dating platforms can contribute to an impatient perfectionist culture. Skinny Dip is about the split feelings that can be present on a date, where endless possibilities and the option to quickly move on to the next match can easily result in an online addiction to superficial relationships”, says Julie Møller Christiansen, who is behind GRO.
With its cool synthesizers, melodic basslines, breakbeat drums and Julie's ethereal, but rhythmic vocals, Skinny Dip is an introduction to the new sound the single ushers in. Skinny Dip is the first taste of the new album Julie is working on, where she collaborates with musician, producer, former boyfriend + partner in the band We Are The Way For The Cosmos To Know Itself, Mads Kinnerup.
Julie's experimental approach to pop music in both her own and other artist’s productions has established her as one of the most interesting Danish female producers right now. Since the debut album came out last year, she has, among other things, been behind the music and on stage for Jeanett Albeck's show Ellers Mange Tak, produced SOLEN ER SEXET's single Skødesløse Lænder, garnered great reviews and played concerts at SPOT festival and GAFFA på Græs.
Without knowing anything about the background of this song, I thought of an artist like MØ from the beginning of her career. The lyrics are free from clichés and the sound is fresh, confident and raw.

lyrics
With another pretty baby down by the sea watching the sun
No one around us for miles
Why be bored when you can have some fun?
Pretty baby and I doing fine
And I really don't know if you’re taking me home
I don’t really care what others think about you
I just really hope that I’m the only one
I can tell that you’re into me
Wish I could stop time
Is this some kind of ecstasy?
Sometimes you need change to feel free
With another pretty baby this time I'm stopping to count
Maybe it's gonna be us
Why don’t we just skinny dip in the dark?
Pretty baby and I doing fine
And I really don't know if you’re taking me home
I don’t really care what others think about you
I just really hope that I’m the only one
So we gotta leave it now?
We only like beginnings
You’re better than that, im better than than that
I gotta leave I can do better
So we gotta leave it now?
I've been waiting I've been waiting but you don’t give me anything I like
You’re better than that, im better than than that
I gotta leave I can do better
